You've been asking for it for a long time. And today, the elusive dark theme is finally here.

Ever since Apple introduced the new dark theme on its devices, it has gotten so much love that it has quickly become one of the most requested feature among Must fans. We could not have ignored the opportunity to make the app even prettier than it already is, and we delivered!

Besides looking good, a dark theme is a natural fit when it comes to movies. It also makes it easier to explore the app during evening/night hours or in low-light conditions, reducing eye strain.

Must's new dark theme is currently available on the iPhone.

Introducing “Today”

Welcome to the new edition of Must. First thing you’ll notice is a different home page called “Today”, while the familiar Explore page has moved to the second tab, which now merges both movies and series content. In this post we explain the thought process and the value proposition behind this year’s biggest update.

Must DNA

Let’s first reiterate that Must has always been about two things: friends and neural networks, designed to learn and recognize one’s taste in entertainment content. It’s been the place to quickly find what to watch, where to watch it and who to watch it with. And of course it’s also been the place to find out what is being watched by others. Every section of the app and every button has a function serving that mission.

So when something isn’t working to its full potential, the frowning face emoji is coming out to play. That’s exactly the mood the Explore section has been placing everyone in. With time it became more evident that the crowd-favourite section was not reflective of the dynamic nature of the entertainment industry and did not keep up with its exciting pace. It’s not every day that a certain movie catches on a trending vibe. As a result, the Explore section would appear almost static with changes noticed once a week or so, sending you, our users, to other sections and parts within the app. If Must were to better reflect the vibrant industry, proper changes were necessary. For this reason, we are moving the Explore page into the second tab position and in its place are launching an intelligent and interactive “Today” feed.

How it works

“Today” posts all the newest and trendiest movie and series releases, trailers, teasers and other videos ⏤ in a single feed and in real time!

Must aggregates all video-based entertainment content from all sorts of sources around the world, and with the help of proprietary Must Score, filters and weeds out stuff that is trending. In turn, this forms the new “Today” feed, allowing you to not miss a single new release and video, and to keep an eye on stuff that’s making waves right now.

For close to two years Must has been relying on posters as a visual way to transcend what that content is going to be like. On one hand it, it does the job just fine. But on the other, we aren’t going to be watching static images. So why not offer the absolute best visualization of a product itself by giving a little taste of what’s it like on the “inside”? We’ve done exactly that. “Today” was designed to feed brief 5-second video clips to showcase the new movie, series and other videos. Something grabbed your interest? Watch the full trailer by tapping on the video, or hit the title to bring up an information card.

This is an exciting new chapter for Must and we’ll be happy to share its results, should you find it interesting to know.

What’s next?

It’ll sound corny AF, but we want Must to satisfy all your entertainment needs (in a large sense of the word) when it comes to stuff you love watching: movies, series, videos, etc. We believe that friends, being our biggest influencers, always take it to the next level. Which is why we strive to create an experience where you can not only find out about the latest releases, but also see friends’ reviews, most relevant collections, personal recommendations ⏤ all in a single place!

In the near future we hope to add the capability to discover and share videos from YouTube, Twitch and other popular video services.

A quick start guide for new users

If you are new to Must, things may get a little overwhelming at first, especially with so many beautiful movie posters around. To make it super easy to figure out, we’ve designed a quick Get Started guide.

To be clear, the Get Started guide is only going to be visible to those just joining the community and existing members who joined but did not build up their profile yet.

In order to take full advantage of the app, you need to tell Must what movies and series you’ve watched or want to watch. The app then does its magic and builds a custom-tailored experience just for you, providing recommendations of content it knows you’ll enjoy. The more movies and shows you rate, the more it knows what to recommend and what to skip.

The Get Started guide will help you do just that: showcase app’s core functionality, follow your friends and personalize your movie experience.

We hope that you’ll enjoy this light beginner’s challenge and learn Must in the process, making it more social and fun to use.

Share Movies, Series or Collections and transfer your movie library

Share Movies, Series or Collections

Sharing is caring! With the latest app update we made it easy and intuitive to share a movie, a series or a collection with anyone.

The grey colored “Share” button, which looks like an arrow, is now conveniently located at the top of the screen, next to the title of a movie/series or a collection.

No longer do you need to text, screenshot or spell a movie to a friend. Send them straight to it with a single click.

Transfer your movie library from IMDb, Letterboxd or Kinopoisk

Many of you have asked us to bring the ability to transfer your collection of films and shows from IMDb, Letterboxd and Kinopoisk.

If you maintained a list with any of these services, you can now import your library to Must.

If you are a new user of Must, you’ll see the link to instructions directly on your profile page. If you are an existing member with an active collection, you’ll find the link under personal Settings.

Keep in mind that your ratings will also be saved in the process.

How to transfer your movie library from IMDb, Kinopoisk or Letterboxd

Use these 3 easy steps to transfer your movie ratings from IMDb or Letterboxd to Must. All ratings will be saved in the order in which they were added.

Step 1

Choose the platform from where you’ll be transferring your ratings and download the file with your movie collection.

From IMDb

Download your Want list. Log in to your profile, click 'See more' under 'Your Watchlist' button, and then click 'Export this list'.
Download your Watched list. Go to 'Your Ratings', click on 'Export this list'.

From Kinopoisk

Download your Want list. Log in to your profile at Kinopoisk. Then follow the link to download the list of movies you saved.
Download your Watched list. Log in to your profile at Kinopoisk. Open page with your lists of movies. Choose the list you want to transfer and save it by pressing "Export to MS Excel" button.

From Letterboxd

Open link to download your movie database. Log in if required.
Click «Import your data» and unzip downloaded archive.

Step 2

Go to Must website and Log in or register. If you are a new member, press the 'Import your library’ button on your profile page. If you are an existing member with an active collection, you'll find the same link under Settings.

Step 3

Upload the file with your ratings, simply by dragging it over or by clicking the button on the Watched or Want list. You're done!

Download the app from the App Store or Google Play and log in to your profile.

Visit a profile page of your friend or someone you are interested in, hit the "Compare" button displayed below and voila ⏤ find out whether you match like Bonnie and Clyde or like Punisher and Ace Ventura!

Results are based on things you share, including movies you both watched and loved, as well as those you both want to see. You'll also find a few suggestions of films that you can watch together, based on shared high Must Score.

Let the new social experience begin

Oh the excitement! It’s about time Must has become a lot more social. Tell the world about yourself and what you are into through a brief profile bio.

Whether you are a blogger, a filmmaker, a foodie, a photographer, a dancer, a philanthropist, an actor, a gamer, a student, a business owner or a professional ⏤ find like minded people to follow who also share the love for watching movies and series.

To make things even more exciting, we also give you the ability to contact a Must user directly through a social messenger of choice, if a user adds that option. We start with the support of the following messaging platforms: Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook and Telegram.

Visit your profile settings (top left corner of your profile page), introduce yourself to the world and add a contact method of your choice.
